Brian Taylor,
Associate Music Director

While studying bassoon in the Performance Degree programme at the University of Toronto, Brian Taylor was twice principal bassoonist of the National Youth Orchestra, and played professionally for three years in the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. After graduation, two years in the Atlantic Symphony were followed by a lengthly tour in the orchestra of the Canadian Opera Company, and free-lance work locally, including the National Ballet of Canada.

Many years of service as organist and cantor led eventually to a position as a church choir director, which, in turn, prompted involvement as a chorister and section lead in other choirs. Four years singing in the Toronto Ukrainian Male Chamber Choir developed into a position as voice coach and assistant conductor there, and also with Vesnivka, a Ukrainian women's choir. Mr. Taylor gained invaluable training and experience in choral conducting with Ron Cheung and his choirs "Voices" and "The Healey Willan Singers", richly supplemented by workshops with Noel Edison and the Elora Festival Singers, and with Jon Washburn and the Vancouver Chamber Choir, as well as in instrumental conducting with Drs. Gerry King, Gillian McKay and Jeff Reynolds at the 2007 Wind Conducting Symposium at U. of T.
